OUR STORY:
FROM RESEARCH
TO RESOURCE.
Prairie Lithium's roots are founded in research. The team at Prairie Lithium, in collaboration with our partners, are active leaders in lithium hydrochemistry and lithium extraction technology research in Canada. Advanced knowledge of regional hydrogeology and chemical engineering are required to unlock the future of lithium.
WHY IS LITHIUM SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?
1. IT'S BURIED KILOMETRES
BENEATH
OUR FEET.
Lithium is most commonly sampled from wells that produce fluid from a depth of 1,000 meters to 3,000 meters beneath us.
2. IT'S
INVISIBLE.
Lithium is dissolved in water throughout the many aquifers of the Williston Basin. You can’t see, smell or feel lithium in Saskatchewan’s oil field brine. This is why oil companies have been producing and disposing of lithium without even knowing it.
3. IT'S ANOMALOUSLY
ENRICHED.
Lithium is anomalously enriched, with no confirmed direct source correlation to its hydrogeologic system in the Williston Basin. Lithium concentrations fluctuate vertically throughout the hydrostratigraphic column, and laterally within each individual aquifer.
